Sewa International Bay Area Chapter Donates Almost $1 Million of Supplies to Families Hit Hard by COVID Pandemic and Wildfires in Northern California

San Francisco Bay Area CA (September 27, 2020): Since the pandemic started in March 2020, Sewa International Bay Area Chapter has served approximately 20,000families across Northern California by distributing 200,000 pounds of fresh fruits, vegetables, milk, and other essential supplies and donating almost $300,000 to 300 individuals and families devastated by the COVID-19 Pandemic or the California wildfires or, in some cases, both. Close to 90 Sewa volunteers across the Bay Area have given almost 15,000 hours of their personal time over the past 6 months to help the vulnerable populations by organizing continuous donation drives and give away events in cities across the Bay Area, including San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Hayward, Livermore, Concow, Oroville, Santa Cruz and many others.

COVID-19 Relief Activites

As of June 21 2020, Bay Area Chapter has donated over 50,000 medical grade masks and ~7000 hand made masks to essential workers. In addition, we have donated food to ~6000 families impacted by COVID-19

Sewa Bay Area Helplines have helped more than 200 stranded passengers, students with their needs.

Sewa International’s Bay Area Chapter distributed hot meals, groceries, masks, water, and hygiene kits to more than 700 families in a drive-through distribution event held in Oroville, CA on Saturday, May 30, and San Jose, CA on June 19th benefiting 1000 people as part of its extensive COVID-19 relief efforts. In addition, Sewa International also donated 500 masks to the Oroville Hospital and distributed goody packets to kids which included wipes, school supplies, and snack bags of cereal. The San Jose food drive was attended by 25th Assembly district member Kansen Chu.

Sewa International’s Bay Area Chapter donated almost 28,000 surgical, N95, and KN95 to first responders such as healthcare workers, police officers, fire fighters, and hospital staff as well as almost 1500 meals to families in need on Sunday, May 3 in an invitation-only drive-through event in Milpitas,CA as part of its COVID-19 relief efforts.Supplies were distributed to almost 20 agencies including San Mateo Medical Center, Oakland Children’s Hospital, City of Sunnyvale, City of Cupertino, Muslim Community Center of Pleasanton and the Mountain View Police Department. About 10 volunteers and a few key donors made this event possible.

Prior to this event, the Bay Area chapter had distributed almost 20,000 KN95, N95, surgical, face shields and hand made masks to the United States Postal Service, Valley Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente, San Ramon Police Department and many other medical and emergency service responders.
