Nepal Flash Flood Crisis: Situation Update

As of August 31, 2026

Nepal is facing a devastating humanitarian crisis following catastrophic flash floods that have caused widespread loss of life and destruction across several districts.

The Human Toll

• 903 people confirmed dead
• 4,247 people reported missing or out of contact
• 267 people injured
• 10,451 people rescued
• 933 hydropower workers among those reported missing

In Chitwan, authorities have recovered 272 bodies and human remains.  Of these, 12 have been identified and returned to families, while 199 unidentified bodies have been temporarily buried after DNA samples were preserved. Nationwide, unidentified remains are being held at 21 hospitals as identification efforts continue.

Widespread Destruction

The floods have severely damaged homes, roads, bridges, hydropower facilities, businesses and other critical infrastructure, leaving communities isolated and thousands of families in urgent need of assistance.

On August 30, 2026, Sewa International USA, working with its ground relief volunteers, provided essential food and relief supplies to communities affected by the devastating floods in Nepal.

• 50+ volunteers and support personnel engaged
• 500+ food and essential relief kits packed and dispatched
• Relief operations underway in Bidur, Nuwakot and surrounding affected areas
• Distribution coordinated with local administrative authorities
